Oakeshott Type XVa Hollow Ground Medieval Sword w/"S" Guard

Measurements: Blade 78.5cm. Overall length 99cm

Presented in excavated condition, the sword has a double-edged hollow-ground blade formed with a medial ridge running over its full length on both sides, tapering from a broad base to a long narrow point. One side features a small series of marks retaining traces of latten and horizontally recurved crosspiece of spatulate form. The sword has a bevelled oval pommel with each face flattened centrally and struck with a decorative cruciform arrangement of five squares each filled with a raised pellet.
