Oakeshott Type XVIII Medieval / Early Renaissance Sword

Tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section, hilt comprising straight quillons of very slightly waisted square section each inlaid with double copper lines (minor losses) around the tip, chamfered wheel pommel with small flattened button and inlaid in brass with a cross potent on each side, and tapering cord-bound grip with central moulding and entirely wrapped in brown leather (some pitting overall).

This sword conforms to Oakeshott's Type XVIII with a pommel of Type K. See Ewart Oakeshott, The Sword In The Age Of Chivalry, 1964, pl. 37 for a sword with similar grip and gilt-bronze pommel.
