14th Century Oakeshott Type XV Medieval Sword

Late 14th century. With tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section, straight quillions of rectangular section narrowing toward the tip, and wheel-shaped pommel tapering towards the top.

Excavated.

This sword corresponds to Oakshott"s group XV with a type G pommel. See R. Ewart Oakshott, The Sword in the Age of Chivalry.

Measurements: Overall length 32 1/4 in., Hilt length 6 3/4 in., Pommel 2 in. in diameter, Handle 3 3/4 in. long, Hilt mostly 1/2 in. thick (measured on the face) tapering likely due to loss down to 5/16 in., blade 26 in. long and 2 1/2 in wide at the hilt.
