Coxcombing, In Other Words Spiral Staircase Knots for Grips

Coxcombing pops up from time to time on sword grips. It's a nice look. I've yet to see an original historic sword with coxcombing, though textiles were not uncommon on sword grips in the medieval period. The difficulty is that textile only grip coverings tend to perish more quickly than even leather. There are however extant textile sword grip coverings which are much more complex than coxcombing, so in my view coxcombing represents a legitimate choice if you are bored of plain wood, or leather over string.
